Acceptable evidence for previously achieved MTC

You must be able to provide evidence for at least 1 Installer and 1 Surveyor at the time of your company pre-approval site assessment. We will accept the following as evidence of previously achieved competency (MTC).

1. Competency card from another fenestration Competent Person Scheme

This competency must be in Fenestration Installation and Surveying.

2. NVQ certificate in Fenestration

Must be Level 2 for Installer and Level 3 for Surveyor. Certificate must show that the following modules were passed when NVQ was achieved:

  • Understanding Building Regulations in the Fenestration Industry
  • Install Windows and Doors

NVQ certificates must show they were achieved within the last five years (5-12 year old NVQs will be subject to a renewal MTC assessment – onsite only) and competency cards within the last three years.

3. Evidence of RICS members for the following Designation – Chartered Building Surveyor

This is acceptable competency evidence for Surveyors only.

If you don't have evidence of previously achieved MTC - FENSA Skills Card

If you do not have evidence of previously achieved MTC for at least 1 Installer and 1 Surveyor as described above, you can apply for a FENSA Skills Card. This provides evidence an individual is competent as an Installer or Surveyor.

To attain a FENSA Skills Card, an individual must pass an online knowledge assessment and an onsite assessment. The cost for this assessment is FREE.

The FENSA Skills Card will feature the individual's photo and name, as well as their company's name AND it also confirms them as a FENSA Approved Installer. We recommend using it as photo ID so customers feel safe that who is at their door is actually who they say they are.

Details required for a FENSA Skills Card application

If you choose the FENSA Skills Card route, we will need the following information for each individual wishing to prove competency:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • National Insurance number
  • Email address to send online assessment link (if different to application details)
  • Delivery address for compliance card (if different to application details)

If you require renewal of competency

Renewal of competency can also be done at your assessment if your card is expired or the NVQ certificate is 5-12 years old. The cost of this is FREE and you get the same FENSA Skills Card noted above.

We reserve the right to request further evidence at any time. FENSA may request an additional assessment if there have been changes to building regulation or to satisfy ourselves that competency has been met.
